Deputy Director - Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD), Chief Investigator, CCRE Spine and Principal Author of the Whiplash evidence based information resource.

Dr Justin Kenardy is a Professor in the Schools of Psychology and Medicine and is Deputy Director of the Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation (CONROD) at the University of Queensland. He works in the broad area of behavioural medicine and clinical health psychology. He has particular interests in anxiety and post-traumatic stress, and pain in relation to physical illness or injury.

 

Professor Kenardy has published over 100 scientific works, and has been cited over 1300 times. He is currently Deputy Director, Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation, Editor, Clinical Psychologist, and is on the Editorial Board, for Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapy, Journal of Anxiety Disorders, Evidence-Based Mental Health, and the Australasian Journal of Disaster and Trauma Studies, and has held editorial positions on the Boards of Australian Psychologist (1995-2001) and Psychology and Health: An International Journal (1997-2000).

Dr Michele Sterling is Associate Director of the Rehabilitation (Medical and Allied Health) Research Program, Centre for National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD), The University of Queensland and Senior Lecturer in the Division of Physiotherapy at The University of Queensland.  Dr Sterling's main focuses of research are: the physical and psychological factors underlying whiplash associated disorders; the prediction of outcome following whiplash injury and the clinical translation of research findings to clinical practice.

The results of Dr Sterling's work have been published in highly rated international, refereed journals such as Pain, Spine and Journal of Rheumatology. Dr Sterling currently serves on the editorial board of 4 international journals (Manual Therapy, JOSPT, Australian Journal of Physiotherapy, The Open Anaesthesiology Journal ). In 2008 she will serve as Guest Editor for a Special Edition of JOSPT specifically on the Cervical Spine. She is a reviewer for many journals including JAMA, Spine, Pain, Journal of Rheumatology.  

Dr Sterling has also been awarded prizes from various professional organizations for her work including, International Federation of Orthopaedic Manual Therapists (David Lamb Award, 2005), University of Queensland Foundation Research Excellence Award (2005), Australian Physiotherapy Association (Qld) (Research Excellence award, 2004).
