Professor H. Peter Soyer - Chair & Professor of Dermatology

An academic dermatologist from Austria with over 25 years in the field, Professor H. Peter Soyer was appointed as the inaugural Chair of the newly established Dermatology Research Centre by The University of Queensland in 2007. His specific clinical expertise lies in dermatopathology, dermatooncology and he is recognised as a world leader in dermoscopy and clinico-pathologic correlation of melanocytic proliferations. In recent years his scientific activities have broadened to include teledermatology, teledermatopathology and teledermoscopy and he personally established the Research Unit of Teledermatology within the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Graz. Within the dermatology field he is considered among the pioneers of dermoscopy of pigmented skin lesions, a non-invasive diagnostic method, and was involved in the development of the morphologic classification system currently used worldwide.

Professor Soyer was the co-founder and is the current president of the International Dermoscopy Society. He is also the co-founder and immediate past-president on the International Society of Teledermatology and organized the First World Congress of Teledermatology in Graz in November 2006. On a national level within Australia, he is a member in several Australasian College of Dermatologists committees.
