Research at the School of Medicine

The University of Queensland School of Medicine has a strong research presence in public and private hospitals throughout southern Queensland.

The school attracted $27 million in competitive research funding in 2010. This research effort is focussed in the School Research Centres and includes research in virtually all of the medical disciplines and most current methodologies from molecular and cellular to clinical practice and epidemiology.

The School employs almost 270 academic and conjoint staff members which equates to 160 full-time equivalent (FTE). Many of these staff members also have significant clinical roles in the health system, and the school also offers academic titles to over 2540 medical professionals who contribute actively to our teaching and research programs. Over 360 Research Higher Degree (RHD) students are currently enrolled in the School of Medicine and over 37 PhDs and MPhils were awarded in 2010 by the University to school RHD students.

The School of Medicine's Research Office provides advice and research support for our clinicians, researchers and research students and drives the strategic planning of the school's research endeavours.
