ACISA Stress and Trauma Scholarship
Recommending Authority: The Scholarship is awarded annually by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Medicine.
Eligibility: The Scholarship is open to students who:
(a) is enrolled in the Master of Mental Health Program; and (b) is enrolled in the course entitled Independent Mental Health Project A in semester 1; and
(c) intends to enrol in the course entitled Independent Mental Health Project B in either the following semester or the year immediately following; and
(d) is undertaking an Independent Mental Health Project in the broad research areas of stress and trauma in the community or workplace; and
(e) submits an application for the scholarship to the Head by the closing date for applications
Basis for Award:

The scholarship is awarded, at the discretion of the selection committee, on the basis of:
(a) the feasibility of the proposed project; and
(b) the contribution of learning is likely to make to the understanding of the impact of stress in the community or workplace; and
(c) other evidence that may be considered relevant by the selection committee.

Applications must be submitted in the form of a quantitative, qualitative or literature based research proposal of not  more than two A4 pages.

Nature of Prize: The value of the Scholarship is $2,000. The Head, School of Medicine, will determine the number of scholarships available each year. This prize will be paid in two instalments.
Application Due Date: Last working day in March.
Other Relevant Provisions: The recipient will be required to acknowledge the scholarship in all publications and presentations of the research.
Background: Established in 2008 and maintained by funds donated from the Australian Critical Incident Stress Association Inc (ACISA) to encourage students to undertake applied research in the area of stress and trauma in the community and workplace.

Claud and Kate Delpratt Memorial Scholarship
Recommending Authority: The Scholarship is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Medicine.
Eligibility: Open to Indigenous people who are enrolled, or seeking to enrol, in the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, or in a program taken as a precursor to the MBBS.
Basis for Award: This scholarship is awarded, as tenure becomes available, alternately to a University of Queensland student and a University of Western Australia student. Selection is based on previous academic results at secondary school and, if applicable, tertiary level; as well as social or economic need.
Nature of Prize: The scholarship value is approximately $7400 per year. Please note this scholarship was awarded in 2007 and is not expected to be open for application at UQ again before 2015.

Dr Helen Row - Zonta International Memorial Prize

Recommending Authority: Head, School of Medicine.
Eligibility: People affiliated with the University of Queensland in a research role or as a student or staff member who have not previously been awarded the prize. 
Basis for Award: Best essay, published work, proposed research plan or outline of another activity which promotes the treatment or the prevention of mental health problems including psychiatric and behavioural problems, in childhood and adolescence.
Nature of Prize: $1,000 and a certificate.
Application Due Date: Last working day in October.
Other Relevant Provisions: The recipient will be requested to make a presentation to a meeting of the Zonta Club of Brisbane at which the prize will be awarded.
Background: Established in 1992 to commemorate the contribution of Helen Maude Row to Child Psychiatry, and maintained from a fund subscribed by her former colleagues and friends.

John H. Tyrer Prize in Internal Medicine

Recommending Authority: Awarded once every 2 years by Senate on the recommendation of the Head, School of Medicine.
Eligibility: Persons who:
(a) have resided in the State of Queensland during the 2 years immediately prior to the year of the award; and
(b) have not previously been awarded the prize.
Basis for Award: Best contribution by way of research in the field of Internal Medicine carried out in Queensland over the past 5 years.
Nature of Prize: A medal and money.
Application Due Date: Last working day in August.
Background: This prize honours the memory of Emeritus Professor John Tyrer, who passed away on 6 June 2006, following a lifetime of outstanding service to medicine, which included his appointment as The University of Queensland’s Foundation Professor of Medicine and Head of the Discipline of Medicine, 1954-1985. The prize was established in 1992 and is maintained from the income of a fund contributed by colleagues, friends and former students of Professor Tyrer.
